Lata Mangeshkar was hospitalised at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday night after she was diagnosed with COVID and pneumonia. She has been in the ICU under the care of Associate Professor Dr Pratit Samdani who has in fact been monitoring and guiding her health since quite a few years now.

ETimes was the first to speak to Dr Samdani and get the health update on Tuesday afternoon. Later, we also spoke to Lataji’s sister Usha Mangeshkar who said that her elder sister was getting better.

A few minutes ago, we spoke to Asha Bhosle and she said that she has to go by the health bulletins that the hospital issues every day. “They aren’t allowing anybody. I went once but wasn’t allowed inside the compound itself. There are severe restrictions and protocols being followed in view of the ongoing pandemic.”

Added Asha Bhosle, “Besides, I too am not very well- a bit of cough and cold. I haven’t contracted COVID; just a bit under the weather.”

“But Didi is improving; she is better than before,” Ashaji asserted.

Ashaji further revealed that their sister Usha Mangeshkar has been in touch with Lataji and gets her health updates on video calls.

It may be recalled that Dr Samdani too had told a section of the media that Lataji has shown slight improvement.

Usha Mangeshkar too had expressed helplessness about being unable to meet Lataji.

Due to her age, Lataji is however going to remain in the ICU under observation for about a week at least from today.
