· Kick start of the COVAXIN vaccination campaign against COVID-19 this morning in Port-Louis for athletes with emphasis for those participating in the forthcoming Olympics and Paralympics Games 2021. An initiative of the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, the vaccination session was held at the Sir Harilal Vaghjee Memorial Hall, in Port-Louis.

· The ex-Mauritian Olympic athlete, Mr Eric Milazar, was the first athlete to be administered his first dose of COVAXIN vaccine. He expressed his interest to participate in the vaccination campaign and dwelt on the importance of getting vaccinated against COVID-19 as a preventive measure against the virus.

· Mr. Eric Milazar encouraged other athletes to follow same as according to him, this will not only protect the health of the athletes and their family but will also enable athletes to participate in international competitions unlike the previous year due to the absence of vaccines.

· The Mauritian boxer in the 69 Kg category, Mr. Merven Clair, who also received his first dose of COVAXIN lauded the initiative of the Ministry as according to him, the vaccines against COVID-19 provide an opportunity for overcoming the crisis. He further underlined that being vaccinated will help athletes restart their routines and practice their sports activities in the appropriate sports infrastructures instead of at home with limited resources.

· The Paralympic champion, Ms. Noemi Alphonse, made an appeal to the population to get themselves vaccinated and encouraged them to demonstrate their optimism regarding the safety of the vaccines.
