Bardem is nominated for Best Actor in “Being the Ricardos”, and Cruz for Best Actress in Pedro Almodóvar’s “Parallel Mothers.” While the world knows the power couple for their versatile and intense performances, they are also staunch supporters of performers’ rights.

The actor, whose fame extends well beyond his native Spain, is a strong advocate for WIPO’s Beijing Treaty on Audiovisual Performances that improves earning conditions for movie artists and other audiovisual performers vital to the films and television shows beloved by the viewing public worldwide.

Attending the 36th Goya Awards in Valencia, WIPO Director General Daren Tang joined the annual celebration and recognition of the many creators in the Spanish film industry.    WIPO will continue supporting performers around the world through building a balanced and effective global copyright ecosystem so the creative industries can continue to grow – affording employment and development opportunities to millions of people around the world, as well as ensuring that their wonderful creations continue to entertain, delight and move us.

Mr. Tang’s participation at the Goya Awards was the last leg of a three-day official visit to Spain where he met with top Government officials, non-governmental actors in the creative sector and individual innovators and creators.
