Vikram Gokhale, veteran stage actor who went on to become a huge name in the film and television industry, passed away on Saturday. He was 75.

The actor breathed his last at a city-based hospital in Pune where he was undergoing treatment for the last couple of weeks, according to PTI. Gokhale was admitted to the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital here earlier this month following health complications.

In a health report released earlier on Saturday, Shirish Yadkikar, the PRO of Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, had informed that the actor’s health had “deteriorated” and that he was on life support.

The 75-year-old actor, who bagged the National Film Award for Best Actor category for his Marathi film ‘Anumati, had been battling for life for last few days. As per reports, his condition on Thursday was described as “extremely critical” with multiple organ failures.

On Friday, hospital staff had said that his health was improving and he was responding positively to treatment. But a day later, in a tragic news, the actor passed away in the hospital.

Gokhale’s mortal remains will be kept at the Balgandharva Auditorium in Pune and the last rites will be performed at the Vaikunth crematorium in the evening, PTI reported citing a family friend of the actor
